Job Purpose Summary:    The Garden of Hope is looking for a Women’s and Children’s English Teacher. This program hopes to not only equip the women and children with a valuable vocational tool in a tourist-dependent city, but also will serve as a vehicle to enable them to discover their identity and self-worth through a holistic curriculum that includes an art program for creative expression and a curriculum that is written to specifically address the women’s needs.

 

Key Responsibilities & Duties:

 

Teaching daily in the Women’s and Children’s ESL program.   Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

 

Classroom Instruction

Utilizing an English curriculum designed specifically for at risk and exploited women and children.  This target group has many special needs and challenges that are not addressed in traditional ESL programs.

 

Daily classroom time is part of a larger purpose of creating an environment of love, trust, safety, healing and empowerment for the women and children

 

Women in our target group are at risk, in, or transitioning out of prostitution.  The teaching style must focus on the dignity and self-worth of each individual. 

The children in our program are from ethnic groups typically at a disadvantage within Thai society.  They range in age from 4 to 16.  Teaching will take place at the beginner, intermediate, and advanced level for kids.

 

Classroom time will incorporate art therapy as another means for the women and children to express themselves.

 

Administer a screening/aptitude intake test to properly place incoming students.

 

Scheduling/Reporting

The English teacher is responsible for the classroom management of all assigned English Classes.

 

The English Teacher will supervise and assign work to interns and volunteers assisting with the English program.

 

Communicate with volunteers, teams, and interns prior to their arrival in Thailand as it relates to teaching English.

 

Fill out daily and weekly class and individual student reports.

A commitment to following all Garden of Hope policies and procedures.

 

Note: Prior to acceptance, each candidate will be carefully screened and references checked. This screening process includes but is not limited to: a state and national Sex Offender website check and an FBI background check.  On site, we have continual video surveillance in all public areas. All classrooms and offices have glass doors to ensure transparency and safety.  The Garden of Hope is safe place for kids and women, but not for those who want to harm them! In addition, upon hiring all staff sign a commitment to comply with the Garden of Hope’s Child Protection Policy.
